1.   Budget 14: Homeowners can now claim tax relief on renovation and repair work.

The Home Renovation Incentive Scheme, due to come into effect in January 2014, has been brought forward after lobbying and fears that work in the construction industry would decline between now and Christmas. The relief is available from Friday October 25th.

2.   Medium sized firms recover but smaller firms still in trouble.

An economic survey carried out by the ACCA has shown that medium sized firms are starting to feel the benefits from the recovery, while smaller enterprises are still experiencing inflationary pressures and difficulty accessing credit.

3.   Venture Capital now the main source of funding for innovative SME’s.

According to the Irish Venture Capital Association’s Venture Pulse survey, Irish firms have raised €1.7bn in Venture Capital since the beginning of the Credit crunch in 2008. The survey also shows that in the second quarter of 2013, SME’s raised €130m, up 74 percent on last year.

The Revenue Commissioners are to write to over 1 million individuals seeking details on how they intend to pay their Local Property Tax next year.
