1.Green light for Charity Regulator is good news for the Public and Charities

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Alan Shatter TD last week announced that the Government has approved plans to establish an independent Charities Regulatory Authority. The new authority will come into operation in 2014.

2.SMEs’ outlook improving: poll

The small firms lobby group, Isme reports that the rate of SMEs that are confident about their business prospects has risen considerably in the past 12 months. The results of the survey taken include increases in 10 out of 12 different indicators that include the chances of future employment and sales outlooks.

3.Irish CEOs cite tax and economic uncertainty key as obstacles to business growth

Over 4/5 of Irish CEO’s cite the increasing tax burden on employees and over-regulation as the key obstacles to overcome in the economic recovery. The statistics for Ireland are significantly higher than those in other European countries. There is still a high amount of confidence about the outlook for Ireland’s economy.

4.Irish economy on road to recovery, according to S&P

Some good news on Friday as the Rating agency Standards & Poor kept Irelands BBB+ grade unchanged and raised the outlook to positive from stable. This means the Ratings agency feels that Ireland’s budget deficit may narrow faster than originally thought.

5.National Digital Strategy to help more businesses trade online

The National Digital Strategy published by Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte last week aims to assist members of the public and businesses to “to more online”. The strategy will help to exploit technology to assist with economic recovery. It also aims to see the complete rollout of 100Mbps broadband to all second level schools in Ireland.
