1. Dell establishes new programme aimed at entrepreneurs
Dell is offering start-ups in Ireland a new source of support with the establishment of a new initiative designed to help entrepreneurs. The Centre will provide access to funding, mentoring and Dell’s technical expertise. A new competition that will give 3 Irish start-ups free office space, business supports and mentoring will be launched later this year.
2. ESB will use its network to bring Broadband to rural areas
Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte has announced the publication of a bill that will allow the ESB to enter the Broadband market using their electricity distribution network. ESB are seeking a joint-venture for the bid which will seek to improve broadband in rural areas throughout the country.

3. Innovative new heating system may yet save us all millions
An engineering company in Monaghan has designed a pioneering low-cost heating system that is 20 times cheaper than gas, oil or electricity. One of Eurotech Heating’s first customers, the Elm Pentecostal Church in Monaghan Town has reduced their heating cost from €16000 a year to just €5 per day. The company has just secured €2 million orders from the UK and is expecting the business to grow enormously in the coming years.

5. Entrepreneurship report urges income tax rate of 15-20%
The Entrepreneurship Forum, chaired by cloud visionary and RTE Dragon Sean O’ Sullivan, has recommended a long term flat rate of tax among its 69 recommendations. Some of the recommendations include use of unoccupied NAMA buildings for co-working space, a national education strategy for entrepreneurship at all levels of education and mandatory training in commercialisation of business ideas for all third-level students.
